The Gas Vans: A Critical Study

In late 2009, a translation of Pierre Marais 1994 study on the gas vans presumably used by Nazi Germany for mass murder was submitted to me for publication. Editing it made me realize that this study was outdated, partly flawed and severely deficient. Hence I started correcting it and adding more material to it, until finally I had a book in front of me that only distantly resembled Marais’s original. M. Marais eventually agreed to have the book published in this new, heavily edited, corrected and expanded edition with me as a co-author. Since I lived in Germany when doing the main work for this project, I chose the pen name Santiago Alvarez in order to prevent any government persecution.

It is alleged that the Nazis used mobile gas chambers to exterminate 700,000 people. Up until 2011, no thorough monograph had appeared on the topic. Santiago Alvarez has remedied the situation. Are witness statements reliable? Are documents genuine? Where are the murder weapons? Could they have operated as claimed? Where are the corpses? In order to get to the truth of the matter, Alvarez has scrutinized all known wartime documents and photos about this topic; he has analyzed a huge amount of witness statements as published in the literature and as presented in more than 30 trials held over the decades in Germany, Poland and Israel; and he has examined the claims made in the pertinent mainstream literature. The result of his research is mind-boggling. Note: This book and Mattogno’s book on Chelmno were edited in parallel to make sure they are consistent and not repetitive.
